Race for Life 2011
On Sunday 10 July, 2600 female runners, walkers and joggers dressed up in pink to take part in the 5K Race for Life in Carlisle’s Bitts Park. Many of those that participated, bore names of loved ones, past and present that currently have or have had cancer - a poignant reminder of the need for essential fundraising into cancer research for treatment that is required now and in the future.
Winner Ellie Ulyatt aged 16 was running on behalf of school mate Adele George, 15, who died of the
disease last February.
The Carlisle 5K Race was expected to raise over £230,000 for Cancer Research UK, with expectations on the whole estimated at an amazing £80m nationwide. The event is such a worthwhile cause and as such, the day turned out to be a huge success.

Billy Rafferty Football Challenge
On Saturday 9 July, a team from David Allen took part in the Billy Rafferty Football Challenge in aid of Carlisle Youth Zone. The turnout was fantastic - 12 teams of local business men and women, split into 3 groups, with 4 teams in each group. We were placed in group C and were playing against Armstrong Watson, Sow Rats FC and Bayern Neverlusen. After braving t
he weather and fighting for a place in the final we were pipped to the post by The Sow Rats who went on to get knocked out in the semi finals of the Competition. The overall winners were Dodd & Co who defeated AC Lowmoor in the final. All in all it was a great day. All proceeds raised are to be donated to Carlisle Youth Zone and will be spent on new sporting equipment for the junior club.
Well done to all that took part! By Jaimi Wilson
Team David Allen – Cycling for a good cause…
A while ago we received a letter and leaflet through the post regarding The Jennings Rivers Ride 2011 – an event that is scheduled to take place on Sunday 18 September. A series of three bike rides starting and finishing in Keswick, following the route of the devastating floods of 2009.
When this cycle ride was first mentioned a group of us decided that with a little bit of training we could make a valiant effort at the Middle distance event. The entry fee for the event goes to the Cumbria Community Foundation - a charity that has made an enormous difference to the people in our area at the time of the floods. As an added bonus we have also set up a Justgiving page to raise funds for the Great North Air Ambulance Service – a service that is vital to people in and around the Lake District.
Training st
arted several months ago with Alison Allen and Sara Deans getting up at 5.45am three times a week in an attempt to increase their fitness in time for September and Leanne Donald cycling to work on her bike every day... we find it hard to keep up with her so will have little chance on the day! The rest of us are fitting our training in at weekends and on an evening after work.
Your David Allen team is looking for your support. So if you don’t fancy getting on your bike for a good cause, please feel free to sponsor us. If you wish to make a donation please forward a cheque made payable to ‘The Great North Air Ambulance Service’ to: Linda Rayson, David Allen, Dalmar House, Barras lane Estate, Dalston, Carlisle CA5 7NY, or alternatively log on to our Just Giving page www.justgiving.com/Team-DavidAllen. Thanks in advanceJulie Walsh
Skelton Show 2011
During the summer season you will often find us out and about at various agricultural shows with our trade stand full of information; a warm welcome, a chair, a cuppa and of course Finlay (our resident calf) who follows us everywhere we go!Saturday 2 July was no different. Staff from our Agricultural, Wealth Management and Accountancy teams headed off for our debut appearance at Skelton Show.
The weather was fantastic... the sun shone all day and with something to see or do for everyone, the show committee can definitely be proud of their achievement. From the usual cattle, sheep and horse classes... to the fur and feathers tent, with proud owners showing their favourite pets... to the motorbike display, the Mayna Piccu Pan Pipes and the spectacular finale.
Even our very own Margaret Ogden participated in the days events with Sally her Miniature Shetland pony - they are now the proud owners of a third place rosette. It was a superb day and it was great to see friends and clients, old and new. Our next outing will be to Cockermouth show on Saturday 30 July, so if you get the chance, stop off for a chat and a cuppa - we look forward to seeing you there.Julie Walsh
