New facility at H & H Borderway Auction Mart

I am delighted to say we now have a permanent booth at H & H in the concourse area. This is a great opportunity for me and my team to be on hand to not only speak to our clients at the auction but also attract new business to the firm in informal surroundings.

The booth was completed in time for the Border British Blue Club 21st annual show and sale on the 21 and 22 May. The show featured a fantastic show of livestock with 24 classes and Judge Alistair Smart from Aberdeenshire had a difficult task picking a winner. The overall Supreme Champion was ‘Faughanvale Ernie ET’, a 22 month old bull owned by Sam Milliken, Northern Ireland and originally bred by Oliver McGuiness.

The Friday
show was rounded of with the Club’s annual dinner held at the Shepherds Inn which Emma Pigg and I attended for the 5th consecutive year. We enjoyed lovely food and great company and look forward to next year’s event.

The sale on Saturday was well attended by perspective buyers and breeders with the Supreme Champion bull achieving top price at the sale... reaching 14,000gns (£14.700). There were a number of bulls also achieving 5 figures prices which was a great result for the Annual event.

Mayoral Visit Honour

David Allen Chartered Accountants was given the mayoral seal of approval on Wednesday when staff welcomed Mary Styth, Mayor of Carlisle and her Consort Jim Styth to our offices in Dalston. This was one of her last official visits before she steps down as Mayor next week.

Many local people have praised Mary’s lifelong commitment to the people of Carlisle, helping numerous charities and giving opportunities to those less fortunate. Mary has successfully raised over £159,200 in her year as Mayor of Carlisle and has brought these businesses together in support of this common cause.

Mary arrived at 1pm and spent more than an hour at our office, where she toured each department, observing people working and met with staff. During lunch Mary and Jim were presented with gifts in appreciation of their kindness and support.

I feel truly honoured that Mary and Jim wanted to take time out of their very hectic schedule to visit us and I would like to thank them on behalf of the David Allen team.

David Allen receives Prestigious Award

Each year the Carlisle City Council looks for the most deserving people to receive the Borough’s highest accolade. Presented annually, the Civic Awards are given to those who have been nominated by their peers and judged by the community to be worthy.

The Carlisle City Council’s Civic Awards were held at the authority’s Civic Centre headquarters this week.

David Allen received an award for his commitment to creating a safe environment for young people in Carlisle as chairman of Carlisle Youth Zone; a project that is close to David’s heart.

David was proud to accept his award from Mayor of Carlisle Mrs Mary Styth and would like to thank everyone for their ongoing support with the Youth Zone.

Cumbria Chamber Business Ride out

On Sunday 15 May with our waterproofs at the ready Sandra and I together with representatives from H&H Reeds Printers, Burnetts and Eden Valley Mineral Water Co Ltd set off from Lloyd Honda Bikes at Kingstown on a Business Bikers ride out; an event for like-minded people.

Kicking off with a welcome and light bites at sponsors Lloyd Honda Bikes we travelled through Carlisle to the A595 west, left at Bothel onto the A591 and then through Keswick centre, and then approximately 6 miles south from Keswick on the A591 we had our half-way stop at the Thirlmere / Helvellyne base car park.

We then continued on through Ambleside onto the A592 through Bowness and down along the Lake to Newby Bridge then onto the A590 where we all congregated at the Lakeland Motor Museum.

Entry had been arranged by our host Mike Morris and included a welcome coffee and biscuits. A leisurely look around the museum followed, and the quality and quantity of exhibits made the long wet trip down all the more worthwhile.

Not wanting to get caught up again in the visitor congestion on our homeward journey, we decided to set off back via Kendal to Penrith where we stopped for fuel and the chance for all to catch up.

A great afternoon out with great company, and one that I feel Sandra and I would like to repeat again in July when a further ride out is scheduled.

Carlisle Youth Zone

As most people know David is the Chairman of Carlisle Youth Zone, an exciting modern youth club in the heart of Carlisle which is due to open in the next few weeks.

For the past six months or so, Carlisle Youth Zone’s staff has been based at our office in Dalston. This has allowed them the opportunity to focus on developing the club without the added pressure of deadlines and build schedules which has ultimately helped them to get this fantastic project off the ground.

I am sure everyone has either seen or heard about this new state of the art new building at Victoria Place (adjacent to the new Richard Rose Academy). Hundreds of youngsters from Carlisle and the surrounding area will now be able to benefit from being a member at the club and can enjoy the state of the art facilities. Membership is being offered to all kids up to the age of 18 for an annual fee of £5 and then 50p for each visit.

We would like to wish Carlisle Youth Zone the very best for a successful future and of course express our thanks for the delicious cake they surprised us with.
