The Mayor of Carlisle’s Charity Sky Dive

On Sunday 17 April 2011 in an attempt to raise money for the Mayor of Carlisle’s Charity Fund I took part in a sponsored sky dive at Cark Airfield along with my daughter Rebecca, Jaimi Wilson from David Allen; Carol Roberts of Carol Roberts Couture Bridal; Shirley Wilkinson of J & S Wilkinson; Karen Brownrigg from Carlisle Race Course; Karen Walker an Occupational Therapist and Roger Smith, Yvonne Pascoe and Andrea Crowther all from Thomas Graham.

The Mayor of Carlisle Mary Styth and Consort Jim Styth
both showed their support by attending what was promised to be a fantastic day.

Chris and Nico
la Reay from Reays Coaches kindly donated their new VIP coach to transport us and our support team to the airfield, arriving on time at 9.00am. After only 30 minutes of instructions we made our way over to the plane to set off. Quickly climbing into the air, my nerves started to kick in. With the plane hovering 2 miles above the ground it was my turn to jump... sitting with my legs hanging over the side of the plane, my instructor launched us literally into ‘thin air’. The rush of freefall was exhilarating – something everyone should do at least once in their lifetime.

I would like to thank everyone who took part in the Sky Dive along with their supporters. A special thank you goes to everyone who sponsored our brave jumpers and helped raise a substantial amount of money for a very worthwhile cause.

The thrill of parachuting is amazing and I would not hesitate in recommending it. For a business looking for something completely different as a teambuilding event... go for it... you won’t regret it.

The Insurance Institute of Carlisle Annual Dinner

Myself and some of my colleagues were delighted to attend The Insurance Institute of Carlisle's annual dinner on Friday night at the Crown and Mitre.

The dinner was for 7.30 so we met in the hotel bar for a drink beforehand before going through to the posh ballroom for a beautiful 3 course dinner.

We were then entertained by a speech from the President Mike Clementson and the guest speaker, a professional comedian Johnnie Casson who kept our attention with their witty tales.

All of our names were then put into a box to win from a
selection of prizes where 3 from our table of 10 won some great prizes. The President then kept up their tradition of inviting guests to their suite (which has now moved to the bar) where we were further entertained by a card enthusiast Kevin Stairmand from H&H Insurance Brokers.

All in all, we all had a great night with flowing wine and some interesting conversation!
