The Mayor's Burns Supper

On Friday 21 January 2011 David Allen had three tables at the Mayor’s Burns Supper which was held at the Tithe Barn in Carlisle. A mixture of clients, staff and friends attended the event, all wearing a hint of tartan.

The night started with the haggis being piped in followed by a speech accepting it. To start with we had Soup followed by the traditional Haggis and Neaps. The main course was homemade Steak pie and then to end the delicious meal we had Cranachan with shortbread which is a great Scottish treat of oats, cream and raspberries.

After a beautiful meal which was kindly donated by Tracey and Barnaby from the Andalusian, and a few drinks, it was then time for the poems to begin. The recitals were very interesting and kept everyone engrossed, Our tables were very lucky when it came to the drawing and we won prizes from flowers to bottles of wine.

The photo shows Joe Wilkinson from J & S Wilkinson collecting his prize.

To finish off what was a great evening, a few of us went to The Office to see Andy Whitaker and his band Highly Strung, perform – what a fantastic way to end a good night!

Hair @ Jibe Awards

On Sunday 16 January 2011, eleven of us went to the first ever Jibe Hair Awards which took place at Smiths Hotel at Gretna.

On arrival we were greeted with a glass of champagne (you could choose the colour you fancied be it red, green, pink or clear). We were shown to our table in the function room where we were lucky enough to be sat right at the front with a fantastic view of the catwalk.

The evening started with a hair show. The junior stylists from all of Jibe’s three salons (Carlisle, Wigton and Workington) put their imaginations into creating new styles they thought their clients would want to wear in the coming year. The models, all looking very elegant and glamorous took to the cat walk showing off their creations before bringing the stylists on to the catwalk to take a well deserved bow.

Next, we had dinner and a few glasses of wine to compliment the beautiful food. The Mayor, Mary Styth gave a speech complimenting all the staff @ Jibe, also Liz and Jason (Jason is her grandson) as being great ambassadors for Carlisle employers. The raffle prizes were then distributed and our very own Alison Allen won a prize!

The second part of the hair show began with the senior stylists' models show casing wonderful creative styles and colours before they too took a very well deserved bow. The models then put on a cabaret show which included singing and dancing.

Next, Liz and Jason gave employee awards to their most outstanding employees including a £300.00 pair of scissors to the best Junior.

The evening was rounded off with a disco and a good opportunity for the staff at Jibe to let their hair down (excuse the pun!!) after a very enjoyable evening.

This was an excellent evening for our client and thoroughly enjoyable for us too.
