Dalston Show - 2010

Once again Dalston show was another fantastic success!

The show started on Friday for us when we had to try and erect the marquees and usually this part of the operation goes without a hitch however due to a strong breeze at one point one marquee was sitting on top of the other. We knew at this point setting up on Friday the 13th was not the best idea.

We ploughed on and by the end of the day the stand was looking good. After ensuring all the marquees were strapped down we left the show field all wondering if they would still be there in the morning.

Linda and myself arrived down at 7:30 on show day and the stand had seen it through the night and looked as good as it did when we left it. Our stand looked great, along with all our new branding. The new bright colours stood out and many people passed very positive comments, and to compliment this Carol did some fabulous flower arrangements.

As usual the morning was fairly slow with only a few visitors as a lot of people were watching the cattle judging and in the industrial tent however after dinner this changed and it became a very busy day for everyone, meeting clients, entertaining children and also getting people to take part in our competition. The winner of the completion was Ali Jackson, Cummertrees, Annan.

We were very honoured to have the Mayor & Consort on our stand for a while, and David had the privilege of showing them round the show field introducing them to everyone.

I would just like to say a very big thank you to everyone that was involved in the preparation of the show and also to the staff that helped out on the day and everyone who visited our stand during the day which made it such a big success once again!

Border British Blue Club – Annual Herd Competition 15 August 2010

On Sunday I had the pleasure of attending this event plus presenting the David Allen Shield for Best Cow.

The finale of the event was held at Mick Gamble and Sarah Rigg's farm in Hownam, near Kelso in the Scottish Borders.

The annual event consists of various categories from young heifer to overall herd and is judged throughout the summer.

This years judge was Allan Wilkinson from near Blackpool, who had the difficult task of attending each farm that had entered from around Cumbria and south Scotland then making his final decision from some outstanding animals.

It was great to see a number of farmers attend and take part and we all enjoyed fantastic hospitality from Mick and Sarah of a hog roast and refreshments, which made the long journey worthwhile.

The winner of our shield (along with 4 others from the family's Solway View herd) was Kevin Watret.

The Show Goes On at Cockermouth

On Saturday 31 July, the annual Cockermouth Show took place and the team at David Allen were keen to be part of the local event and show our support.

So on the Friday before, we set off to put up our new marquee…ensuring that this year we well and truly had it secured to the ground so we didn’t have a repeat of the previous year when our tent blew away !!!

On Saturday morning we arrived back and set out all our new branded display stands and brochures in the eye-catching colours. A team started blowing up balloons to give to the children passing by, plus goody bags filled with our summer newsletters, new pens and note pads.

The inside of our marquee looked bright and colourful also with all the new designed items on display and Carole had made up fantastic flower displays which many guests admired, plus the fresh strawberries and grapes were a real success.

We had many visitors coming to our trade stand, to talk to our team and occasionally take shelter when there was a rain shower. The weather did not put people off coming and the show was as popular as ever attracting exhibitors, businesses and families.

I know everyone thoroughly enjoyed being part of the day and a big thank you to everyone who helped out.
